Renuds

How Renuds works

Upload what you have. Renuds checks the figures, asks only for facts the records cannot settle, and gives you a computation where every number opens back to its source.

Three steps, one traceable result

If most of your income is salary or pension, start with your Form 130 or pension statement. Add your Form 168 or AIS and any bank-interest or investment statements you have. Renuds reads them together, checks the figures, and shows your result with every amount linked to its source.

  1. Upload the documents you already have. There is no tax form to complete first.
  2. Check the result. Open any figure to see where it came from.
  3. Download your records. Creating a portal file is a separate, optional step.

For complex returns

One return, even when several things happened

Choose every activity that applied. Renuds keeps salary, family pension, property, investments, business or professional income, F&O and virtual digital assets in one return. For NRI or RNOR cases and foreign assets or tax credits, it asks for the relevant travel dates, ownership periods, income, tax and conversion evidence instead of asking you to choose a tax form.

Why some returns are hard to get right

A straightforward single-employer salary is easy to get right by hand, and Renuds computes it just as easily. The situations below are where a manual filing gets it wrong often enough that it’s worth naming why:

  • RSU/ESOP/ESPP is taxed twice. Once as a perquisite when the shares vest, and again as a capital gain when you sell. The cost basis for that second event is the fair market value on the day of vesting, not the grant date. This is the single most common error in this segment.
  • Foreign shares are unlisted for Indian tax purposes. That means a 24-month holding period for long-term gains, not 12. Selling at month 18 believing you’re long-term is a common, expensive mistake.
  • Forex conversion happens per lot, per date, at the specified SBI TT buying rate, applied separately to every vest and every grant. This is where a spreadsheet usually breaks down.
  • Schedule FA reporting runs on the calendar year, not the financial year, and asks for peak balance, not year-end balance. That’s a different accounting question than the rest of the return, and the penalty for getting it wrong is real.
  • Nothing consolidates a mixed portfolio cleanly. Zerodha, Groww, a CAMS or KFin mutual-fund statement, and a foreign broker, all in one return.

The vest-then-sale timeline

Vest datePerquisite tax on FMVFMV becomes thecost basisSale dateCapital gains taxGain = sale price− vest-date FMV

Two separate taxable events on one grant of shares. The fair market value at vest is both an income figure and, later, a cost basis.

Frequently asked questions

Does Renuds file my return for me?

No. You get a source-traced computation and, when every required fact and filing schedule is ready, a filing file for you to review. You, or your authorised helper, upload it to the Income Tax Department's e-filing portal and verify it yourself. Renuds is not registered as an e-Return Intermediary and does not submit or verify the return for you.

Is my computation reviewed?

When review is included for your return, Renuds identifies that review and its status in the product. Your result may be available before an independent Chartered Accountant finishes the review. Do not treat a result as reviewed unless Renuds confirms that status for that return.

What documents do I need?

Start with the original PDF, spreadsheet, image or tax-portal file: Form 130, supported broker or mutual-fund statements, supported foreign-broker or equity-plan statements, Form 168 or AIS, and interest or home-loan certificates. Upload them in any order; Renuds identifies the documents it can read and tells you when it cannot use one.

I already filed. Can Renuds check it?

Yes. Drop the ITR-2 you already filed alongside your source documents to compare its figures with Renuds's source-traced computation. Review every identified difference before taking action.

What kinds of returns does Renuds support?

Renuds accepts salary and pension, family pension, bank interest and dividends, property, investments, RSUs and ESOPs, business or professional income, F&O and virtual digital assets, and foreign income or assets. It also collects the day-count and disclosure facts needed for resident, NRI or RNOR cases. Complex branches ask precise questions when records cannot settle expense, audit, residency, treaty, foreign-tax-credit or disclosure treatment. Renuds does not guess or create a filing file while a required fact remains unresolved.

Will the filing file be accepted by the department?

Renuds validates filing output against the latest published department schemas and validation material for the applicable form. The final Tax Year 2026–27 filing-season format has not yet been published, so Renuds cannot promise acceptance for a format the department has not published. Your PDF and Excel computation remain available; the portal file unlocks only after the applicable official format is available and the return passes its checks.

Can someone help me with my return?

Yes. From your return, create a private invitation link for the person helping you. They use their own Renuds account; access is recorded and can be removed immediately. The taxpayer remains the owner, and only the taxpayer can approve or delete the return.

How is my data protected?

It's encrypted while it travels to us and while it sits in storage. Full details, including exactly how long each kind of data is kept and how to have it deleted, are on the Privacy & data retention page.
