Documents for your income tax return.

Gather the records for every income source that applies. This is a preparation checklist, not a promise that every document format or tax case can be completed without further facts.

Salary or pension

Employer salary/TDS certificate, pension statement and any relevant payslips or pension-payment records. Older records may say Form 16; newer records may use Form 130. Keep all employers and pension sources for the selected year.

AIS and tax credits

The applicable AIS, tax-credit statement or portal export for your selected year. Keep certificates and tax-payment challans too: a reported credit and an income figure must be reconciled, not simply added twice.

Bank interest and dividends

Annual interest certificates or original bank statements and dividend records. Account balances are not interest income. Confirm identified credits and exclude transfers between your own accounts.

Shares and mutual funds

Broker tax P&L, transaction statements and mutual-fund capital-gains reports. Preserve acquisition dates and cost records even when purchases occurred in an earlier year; gains depend on disposal records and historical basis.

RSUs, ESOPs or foreign investments

Equity-plan vest or exercise records, employer perquisite information, broker sales and foreign-account statements. Provide any foreign-tax evidence and required residency/disclosure facts; a sale statement alone may not establish the original cost.

Property

Rent records, ownership and co-ownership facts, home-loan interest certificates and purchase/sale evidence where relevant. A property sale is different from rental income; identify both if they occurred.

Business or professional income

Receipts and sales, expense records, opening/closing stock, asset records and available books or profit summaries. Include relevant bank and GST records as supporting evidence. Uploading informal receipts does not by itself prove a complete taxable-profit figure.

Earlier returns

Previous computations, loss schedules and cost-basis records where relevant. For the existing-return comparison, include a supported filed ITR-2 JSON and the records used for that return.

Keep the year and original files clear

Do not edit dates or totals to make documents match. A historical purchase can establish basis for a current sale; an earlier-year income or disposal must not become current-year income. Renuds flags source-period exclusions and asks for confirmation where necessary.

Use originals where possible. If a supported document is locked, enter its document password only in the product’s unlock field. Never provide a government portal password.

The Income Tax Department’s filing utility manual directs taxpayers to review prefilled information and enter remaining details. Use the applicable return instructions for your actual year; older portal pages may retain legacy form names.
